What do you want to be when you grow up?
If you’d asked me that when I first started at Hopkins I would’ve immediately said lawyer. That was the original plan. Things change, however, and now I’m not really sure what I want to be anymore. Right now I’m really enjoying my IS major and may pursue a career in international development or maybe even check out the State Department. Truly, it’s up in the air.
What’s your biggest struggle right now?
Right now, I’m really torn on where I want to study abroad. I’m 95% sure it’s going to happen I just have no idea when or where I’m going to go. I take Portuguese at Hopkins so I think it would be cool to study in Rio or maybe head to Europe and live in Lisbon. Although I’m sure I would love either of those cities, a part of me wants to head to a city like Tokyo or Hong Kong where I know next to nothing about the culture. It would be a completely different experience.
What’s something you discovered lately?
I discovered the amazing resource that are the MSE librarians. There’s a large selection of librarians experienced in different academic fields ready to help you with any sort of paper you need to write. The history librarian I worked with was incredibly helpful as I wrote my final paper. She worked with me in finding a proper thesis and appropriate sources to help me write and defend my paper. Couldn’t recommend it more!
What do you do when you’re not studying?
I really enjoy exploring different parts of Baltimore. It’s a quirky city with a lot to see! Be it an afternoon at the Walters Art Museum, dinner at Lebanese Taverna, or a cool study spot at Red Emma’s, Baltimore offers a little bit of everything. As a taxi driver put it, “Baltimore has everything a big city has to offer with a small town feel.” Couldn’t agree more.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Selfie sticks. I bit the bullet and bought one while I was in Thailand over intersession. Do they look ridiculous? Yes. Do they make for incredible selfies? You betcha!
