As you can see, lil’ ol’ Molly is back home in Pittsburgh for the summer. In a surprising turn of emotional events, I don’t really feel the need to do an all-encompassing freshman year recap. I’ll admit it was weird reducing my Clark House abode to its eerily empty pre-frosh state, and the car ride home consisted of an even weirder mish-mash of upbeat and #sadgirl jams. Also, I saw this…
…which accompanied my 5 hours of reminiscing quite well. Regardless, I felt like freshman year at Hopkins ended on a higher note than I could have ever foreseen, especially considering the waves of unease and detachment that defined my first semester: Molly, niche-less. Sans niche. I’ve come a long way since then, and while I’ve still got a ways to go yet (bc u know – it’s all abt. da climb) – I’m still processing all of this:
And there’s more where that came from, but I shan’t bombard you. Rest assured, there is much more to come. Exhibit A: I-N-T-E-R-N-S-H-I-P.
That’s right. Talk about college kid buzzwords. I am blessed and grateful to say that this summer, I’m interning at WQED, Pittsburgh’s educational public media station. In the marketing and communications department, I’ll be helping write press releases and other communication materials, helping to organize community engagement activities, and creating various other reports/organizational files/etc. etc. etc. It’s my first venture into the world of the internship, and I’m fraught with equal parts curiosity, excitement, and nervousness – a timeless trifecta. Starting June 5th, it’s WQED&me. Is this “the real world”? Don’t even get me started. It’s times like these when I feel thankful for my Hopkins education, as well as for the spirit guide of Leslie Knope.
Outside of my WQED shenanigans, I’m a semi-free bird this summer. Being away from Pittsburgh so long has been a weird sort of blessing in disguise; I’ve returned with a new appreciation for it, along with a strong push to explore it to an even greater extent than before. While I’ll be missing Balti over the next few months, I’m committing myself to as many hometown hijinks as possible before the summer ends, most of which will make it onto this lil’ blog here on HI. Soon, I’ll be doin’ some gallery visiting/art scene surveying/potential artist interviewing for a new online contemporary art journal here at home called Dear Pittsburgh, and I’m over the moon about it. With the Three Rivers Arts Festival just around the bend and my summer tan off to a great start (only one of those statements is true), I guess you could say I’ve got that Summertime Gladness. !!!!!!!!!
The adventures have only just begun.
Hello from Pittsburgh! yungm0lly is home.
