What’s your biggest struggle right now?
Feeling motivated to go to classes. I thought that my senioritis in high school was bad but oh boy is it worse in college. Don’t get me wrong, the classes I’m taking are all extremely interesting and the professors make all the subject matter fun and relatable. But with job applications, student organizations, and wanting to savor every day of my last year, classes aren’t exactly at the top of my mind.
What’s the coolest place you’ve ever been?
Vienna. Last fall I had the pleasure of studying abroad in London and, before I left, my friend Matt told me that I needed to visit Vienna. So in November I went with two friends to the coolest place I’ve ever been. From late November to late December, Vienna is bombarded by elaborate Christmas markets all over the city with some of the best food and amazing light displays. 10/10, highly recommend.
What’s a piece of advice that you would give to an incoming student?
Try not to stay in your room too much! I was definitely guilty of this my Freshmen year and while it meant that I became extremely close to my two suite mates, I missed out on some really great opportunities. There are literally thousands of people at JHU and each one is more interesting than the last. There is a 100% that at least one person has the exact same interests as you so get out there and say “Hi whats your major? Where are you from?” until you find that person.
What puts a smile on your face?
Food. Next question pls.
What do you do when you’re not studying?
Watch TV shows and get into heated arguments about them with friends. As a (former) Film and Media Studies major I pride myself on my wide breadth of filmic knowledge and I’ve found that I’m not alone. The other night, after watching the new episode of American Horror Story, my friends and I hypothesized on the future of the show, re-watched trailers from the previous 5 seasons, and ranked them according to fear and costume design. My friends are cool.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Online shopping. It’s really amazing how many times I can convince myself that I need a new sweatshirt.
What’s a change you’ve made recently?
I got new glasses. This is a pretty big deal for me as my previous pair was described by a Warby Parker employee as being my “Spirit Frames.” But the other day someone told me I now look like a Steve Jobs / Urban Outfitters collaboration with my new pair…so that’s pretty cool too I guess.
