To support safety and public health during the Covid-19 pandemic, all on-campus events are canceled until further notice.

Almost everyone on campus heads back home for Thanksgiving break. But for the students that decide to stay on campus, choosing between binge-watching Scandal and heading out on your own to have some fun might be a daunting task. For part of my Thanksgiving break, I decided to go to Washington, D.C.

Even during break, the local shuttle between Homewood and JHMI starts running at 6am and is a great way to hop off at the Penn Station. From there, you can take the $8 MARC train straight to Union Station in D.C.

The best thing to do before the museums at 10am is to roam around Capitol Hill for a few hours. Once you’ve explored the museums, head over to the other side of the National Mall to see the memorials.

D.C. is a great place for a weekend getaway because almost everything you do in D.C. is free of cost and the only money you spend is on either souvenirs or delicious food. One of the many things to look forward to for your first Fall semester here at Hopkins!
