What do you want to be when you grow up?

I used to want to be an astronaut. But its a bit too early to explore Mars so I’m looking at being a doctor (I know, classic Hopkins). I want to help people work every day to improve their health and work in health policy to tackle health care challenges facing the US today.

What’s your biggest struggle right now?

I’m trying to understand and plan what I need to do to get to where I want to be. It’s a bit complicated because I’m learning there is no real simple path to follow and that I can achieve my goals in many ways. Luckily, I have many friends and mentors I can reach out to. They’ve helped me tremendously in clarifying my goals and how I plan to achieve them.

Where’s the coolest place you’ve ever been?

So far, Acadia National Park. I never realized the true potential and magnificence of the outdoors and now I want to go on trips to all the US national parks. Plus, I like climbing random rocks and there were plenty of those there.

What’s something interesting you learned in class?

“The mitochondrion is the powerhouse of the cell.” Just kidding! One cool tidbit I learned is how to synthesize banana oil in Organic Chemistry Lab, the same compound that gives Laffy Taffy candy its banana-flavored taste!

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Java Chips from Brody Cafe. It’s like a coffee smoothie. All the fun and all the fat. So good, yet so bad!

What’s a change you’ve made recently?

I’m trying to sleep less. Not the unhealthy 2 hours of sleep a night kind of way. More like actually sleeping 7-8 hours, but not too much more. I’ve found that sleeping too much is making me more tired in the day. Now I try to avoid being in my room so I can’t get too comfy on my bed.
