What’s your biggest struggle right now? My biggest struggle right now has to do with my Sophomore thesis.  I am writing about Shakespeare’s Lady Macbeth as an anomalous instance of an 11th century Scottish noblewoman and examining how she becomes abstruse when surrounded by the more Early-modern characters who make up the rest of the play.  I have never written anything similar to a thesis before and I am certainly being kept busy by this project.

Why did you come to Hopkins? I knew that I would be able to study under phenomenal faculty members here.  I also liked the academic freedom Hopkins has to offer, as well as the support and direct relationships students have with faculty members here.

What puts a smile on your face? Seeing my friends perform! I love watching other actors and singers ‘do their thing’.  It’s always exciting to see the choices and interpretations they’ve made and how they develop their roles.  I am always inspired by my friends’ classmates’ talent and enthusiasm, and they never fail to  make me smile.

What do you do when you’re not studying? I love to read for fun.  However, when I’ve had a particularly reading-intensive week at school, I enjoy going to the Hopkins music practice rooms and singing.

What’s a piece of advice that you would give to an incoming student? Don’t overwhelm yourself your first semester.  Instead, give yourself the gift of getting acquainted with the university and what it’s like being a student here: explore, do something you would never have done in High School, and take the time to enjoy Hopkins!
