How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I discovered Hopkins when I was looking for the best bimolecular engineering programs.
How has your family background or life experiences shaped you? My family background and life experiences have greatly affected the person I am today. As a military child, I have moved many times and lived in vastly different places. Moving around constantly has made me a more adaptable and accepting person all around. The places I have lived include: Texas, Colorado, Hawaii, and I am currently living in Germany. The people I meet have backgrounds that range far and wide and interacting with them has made me a more well-rounded person. In addition, moving forces me to be the new kid at a school every few years. Adjusting to the new rules, classes, and expectations has made me a very adaptable and resilient person.
What do you hope to get involved in on campus? I hope to get involved in a variety of groups on campus. I would like to join student government and other clubs related to politics and international affairs. I want to learn about the intricacies of politics as well as learn from other’s views. I also want to swim on the club team and/or varsity swim team. Another club/activity I hope to get involved in is giving tours around the school for prospective students. Finally, I want to get involved in a science/research oriented club at JHU.
If you could give your junior-year-of-high-school-self one piece of advice, what would it be? If I could give my junior-year-of-high-school-self one piece of advice it would be to take a more proactive role in my own life. I have regrets of not doing things that I wanted to do and missing out on some opportunities.
What are you most excited to do in Baltimore? The thing I am most excited to do in Baltimore is just to live in a big city. I currently live in the middle of nowhere, Germany and I want to be surrounded by all the American restaurants, brands, and activities. I have always wanted to live in a bigger city where there is lots of new stuff to do and explore. While in the big city, I want to meet even more new people with different backgrounds and life experiences. I hope to learn from them and become a more well-rounded person by doing so.
