How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? It was only a few months ago when I realized I truly desired to become a neuroengineer. I decided if I was going to pursue neuroscience, I might as well learn from the very best. Hopkins was unparalleled by any other university in the field, and I felt confident in applying for early decision.
Who is the most influential person in your life? My grandmother. Throughout the years we spent together, it broke my heart to see her suffer from Alzheimer’s. What’s worse, there was nothing I could do to improve her conditions. She had the most influence in shaping my current goal, a neuroscientist/engineer.
What’s your best piece of college search advice for high school students? Visiting the colleges in person. There is a unique atmosphere to each college that you can only feel by going there in person. Although statistics and rankings are important, what matters most is finding the college you truly wish to attend.
If you could give your junior-year-of-high-school-self one piece of advice, what would it be? Make more mistakes. There’s no better time in life than your high-school years to make mistakes. You won’t learn a lot from them when you’re young, and you’ll have to face worse consequences when you’re old.
