How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I discovered Hopkins though my Intro to Engineering class at my high school. I was required to look into different schools that offered my intended discipline, biomedical engineering. Hopkins was immediately the top one on my list. From the very moment I opened the website, I fell in love. Everything I valued as a student aligned with Hopkins’ educational visions. Once I visited for the first time, I knew I wanted to live there for the next four years of my life. Choosing to apply early decision was easy for me; there were other schools I was interested in, but none of them compared to Hopkins.
Is there a quote or motto that inspires you? What is it and what does it mean to you? My select team lacrosse coach once told me to “control the controllables.” Since then, I feel like I’ve had a different outlook on life. I’ve learned that if I’m unhappy with something I can’t change, I can make small adjustments to things that I can change to make the situation less stressful, more bearable, or more enjoyable even.
How has your family background or life experiences shaped you? Growing up with two educators as parents has definitely been the most influential factor on who I am. I grew up watching two people who loved to give the gift of knowledge, so I fell in love with receiving it. My passion for learning has always been a big part of who I am because of it.
What’s your best piece of college search advice for high school students? Visit, visit, visit!!!!! If you’re interested in attending a school, especially if it’s your top school, try to visit as many times as you can even at different times. You could absolutely love a campus and the atmosphere of the campus during a certain time of the year, but hate it at another point. Whenever you decide to visit, make sure students are around and taking classes because that could change your entire perception of the campus as well.
What are you most excited for about college and/or coming to Hopkins? I’m most excited to attend sporting events!! I love the way students come together, despite any differences, to support their school!
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? (dream big!) In ten years, I hope to run my own practice where I design and make prosthetics!
What are you most excited to do in Baltimore? I’m definitely most excited to try all of the little Mom & Pop restaurants that Baltimore has to offer! I love cute, little places like that, it makes everything feel like home!
