How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I first discovered Hopkins when I was researching about strokes. There was an article on related research that Hopkins published, catching my interest. From then on, Hopkins was my dream school even as I went through the college search process, visiting various other universities. In the end, the open curriculum and research opportunities spanning a vast realm of fields ultimately resulted in my choice to apply Early Decision.

Who is the most influential person in your life? My dad has been the most influential. No matter how stressed he is from work, he always manages to come home with a positive attitude and carries himself with such grace.

How has your family background or life experiences shaped you? Since third grade, I have moved five times and attended seven schools, enabling my introduction to people from around the world. With this frequent moving, I have been able to experience a range of cultures, from attending a Canadian school in Singapore to a charter school in Dublin, Ohio. While having to set up new roots so frequently has had its challenges, it also has opened my eyes to the commonalities people share even when raised thousands of miles apart.

What’s your best piece of college search advice for high school students? When the college search process begins, it is normal (and totally acceptable) to feel overwhelmed by all of the information that is presented. Take each step as it arrives and remember to apply where you think you can thrive. After all, one of these colleges will likely be where you spend the next four years of your life!

What fictional character do you most relate to or most closely represents you as a person? Monica Geller.

What is the accomplishment you’re most proud of? I started my school’s first Peer Tutoring Program which aims to help students in the middle ground that are often overlooked.

What are you most excited for about college and/or coming to Hopkins? I am incredibly excited to begin taking courses in Public Health! My high school does not offer classes in this field, so I am anticipating the opportunity to expand my understanding in this field.

What do you hope to get involved in on campus? I would love to join Hopkins Insider! I regularly view the posts which definitely helped in my decision to apply early. Hopkins Insider provides various angles of life at the university, detailing the best chairs to sit in and sample semester schedules. Reading these posts gave me a sense of the attitude of the student body, an aspect that can be difficult to discover. Because of this connection, it would definitely be rewarding to assist future students through my descriptions of life at Hopkins.

If you could get ice cream with one person (real or imaginary; dead or alive), who would it be and what kind of ice cream would you get? Chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream with Rosalind Franklin.

If you could give your junior-year-of-high-school-self one piece of advice, what would it be? Writing a personal statement really is not that daunting! A simple experience with excellent descriptions is plenty to fulfill the prompt.

What are you most excited to do in Baltimore? Go to an Orioles game!
