How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I discovered Hopkins when I was 8 years old and we were taking a road trip down to DC. My parents dragged me down to the campus so that they could take some pictures (a truly horrifying experience). Hopkins re-entered my life in sophomore year when I started thinking about what I wanted to do in the future, and soon enough, Hopkins entered my radar as an amazing school for Pre-Med. I had no idea where I was going to ED or even if I wanted to ED at all until I toured Hopkins in the summer before senior year. I absolutely fell in love with the campus, for starters, and I also connected with the core values that Hopkins has to offer. The curriculum promotes flexibility and exploration, and as a high school student, I haven’t had many opportunities to learn beyond the classroom environment.
If you could teach one class at Hopkins, what would it be? Mythology/Ancient History
What is your best piece of college search advice for high schooler students? Visit potential colleges well before the application process. When it seems hard to narrow your list down, visiting colleges helps to rule out a bunch. Sometimes, you just can’t see yourself in a particular campus, and sometimes, the people and the vibe really connects with you.
What book, album/song, or TV show has had a profound influence on your life? Percy Jackson.
What crazy invention would you love to design? Not too crazy (I just need one for my own convenience), but I would love to design a microwavable thermos because pouring milk from a mug into a thermos early in the morning is a recipe for disaster.
What do you hope to get involved in on campus? I would love to participate in neuroscience research and other medical-oriented clubs! I also want to stay connected with my Indian heritage and keep active by playing tennis (I’ve been playing since I was 8). And, if I have the time, I would love to join a baking or cooking club!
If you could get ice cream with one person (real or imaginary; dead or alive), who would it be and what kind of ice cream would you get? Chocolate truffle with Jay Gatsby.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? (dream big!) In 10 years, I’m hopefully finishing up med school! I would love to become a world-class neurosurgeon where I can also travel the world and explore different cultures and cuisines. Traveling is definitely something I want to pursue in the future, so having a job to accommodate that would be incredible, though it will definitely take more than 10 years!
What are you most excited to do in Baltimore? Exploring the food scene. I’m definitely a foodie who loves to learn, and I can’t wait to try out all the different restaurants and see if I can recreate anything at home!
