How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I already knew Johns Hopkins University was one of the best universities in the United States. Then, when I decided to join summer program in US university, I found Engineering Innovation program of Johns Hopkins University. I applied and joined Engineering Innovation, I really liked the university’s fast response on email, good facilities, clean dormitory, and good location.
Is there a quote or motto that inspires you? What is it and what does it mean to you? My motto is ‘Heaven helps those who help themselves.’ It means if I try hard to reach my goal, I will eventually reach the goal. For me, it was a motto I repeatedly thought when I was having a hard time. Eventually, I achieved many goals, such as getting good score at ACT and successfully leading 2 clubs.
What fictional character (Hermione Granger, Holden Caulfield, etc.) do you most relate to or most closely represents you as a person? I think Frodo from The Lord of the Rings is most related to me as a person.
What is the accomplishment you’re most proud of? The accomplishment I am most proud of is publishing my novel on online novel website. I always loved writing stories. I even wanted to be a writer when I was young. Even after I decided to major Chemistry, I continued to write stories and published novel on website. At first, my novel was very unpopular with only 2 or 3 views per episode. However, as I learned from my mistake, now my recent novel has 181 subscribers and about 17,000 views. During this process, I did not get any assistance from others. Everything I wrote came from my imagination, and my writing skill improved only because I continued writing story. Because of this, I think my achievement in writing novel as valuable.
What book, album/song, or TV show has had a profound influence on your life? Lord of the Rings
