How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I’ve had Hopkins on my radar for years but realized that I wanted to apply Early Decision after I visited the campus in 10th grade. The fact that Hopkins has a country campus feel while right next to a major city really appealed to me. In addition, Hopkins has a very strong pre-medical track. Finally, I really like the fact that Hopkins stresses collaboration among students.

What’s your best piece of college search advice for high school students? Don’t procrastinate. I know this is probably what everyone tells you, but it’s true. If you work ahead, high school will be a breeze and you will already have the necessary foundation to succeed in college. I remember cramming for midterms in my junior year and putting in all-nighters. The stress was unimaginable and after that I decided to work ahead on assignments. This greatly reduced my nightly workload and allowed me to spend more of my time doing things that I really enjoyed.

What is the accomplishment you’re most proud of? I am really proud of myself for making it to the International BioGenius Competition. This is a parallel competition to ISEF and fifteen high-school students from around the world were invited to present their research at the 2017 BIO International Convention. It was an amazing experience to meet and present to CEOs in the biotechnology industry.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? (dream big!) I see myself in the middle of a neurosurgery residency and volunteering around the world in Doctors Without Borders. I want to go into medicine to make a difference in the world and after volunteering in Peru this summer, I realized that third-world countries need our help the most.

What are you most excited to do in Baltimore? I am most excited about visiting the National Aquarium and spending time in Fell’s Point!
