How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I discovered Hopkins by taking a tour here in the summer. It was my last tour, and even though I was exhausted, I fell in love with it immediately. Even the mundane aspects like the quad or stairwell to the library seemed like a future home. As the tour progressed, and as I learned more about the university and what it offered, I decided to apply early decision. I just had this gut instinct that Hopkins was my first choice, and I wanted to find out as soon as possible if I would be able to attend.
Is there a quote or motto that inspires you? What is it and what does it mean to you? “Action from principle.” It’s something we learned in my junior year English class, and it stuck with me. It means to do what you believe in, following your individuality and personal principles. It really resonates with me as I like having both the responsibility and then the freedom to make my own choices in life.
What’s your best piece of college search advice for high school students? My best advice for the college search is visit the campuses. Had I not physically come here, I may not have applied. Some aspects you just can’t find online.
What crazy invention would you love to design? I’ve always thought we, as a society, needed solar powered shoes. Something like Heelys, those shoes with wheels, but that used the sun to make them go. We could travel faster, while looking super dorky, and if that isn’t ideal, then I’m not sure how modern transportation was made.
What do you hope to get involved in on campus? I want to get involved with something film related. I made some movies with my friends in high school, and I want to continue here at Hopkins. It was a fun outlet for us to take a break with, and we actually made some fairly interesting videos.
What are you most excited to do in Baltimore? I’m most excited for the culture it has to offer. I’ve heard from current students that the life and vitality of the city is wonderful, and I can’t wait to meet it.
