How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I took classes through CTY and found about Hopkins through the program. I also attended a neuroscience seminar on the JHU campus during my freshman year and absolutely fell in love with the school. I decided to apply early decision because Hopkins was my number one pick and I wanted to demonstrate my interest in the school.
If you could teach one class at Hopkins, what would it be? (already exists or invented by you!) I would teach a course on psychology, specifically about mental health issues.
Is there a quote or motto that inspires you? What is it and what does it mean to you? “Just keep swimming.” This quote from Finding Nemo helps get me through tough times and remember to keep on persevering. Whether I’m at swim practice working on a hard set or dealing with personal issues, I tell myself that if I just keep swimming I’ll be able to get through it.
How has your family background or life experiences shaped you? Both of my parents are veterinarians so I grew up in a very science-oriented household. My mom always kept me informed about disease outbreaks (from influenza to ebola) and taught me about how each one worked. This fostered my love for science and its ability to explain and solve problems, and is ultimately what led me to pursue an education at a top research university.
What fictional character (Hermione Granger, Holden Caulfield, etc.) do you most relate to or most closely represents you as a person? Christina Yang from Grey’s Anatomy
What crazy invention would you love to design? Pants made of velcro with a bunch of different sized/shaped pockets that you could stick onto them
What do you hope to get involved in on campus? I hope to get involved with club or intramural swim, community service, and political activism.
If you could get ice cream with one person (real or imaginary; dead or alive), who would it be and what kind of ice cream would you get? Shawn and Gus from Psych, we would get pineapple sorbet
What are you most excited to do in Baltimore? Experience real seasons! Where I live in Cali, all the seasons are pretty much the same and I am so excited to live somewhere with snow, rain, etc.
