How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I discovered Hopkins through social media, official website, and information provided by my high school aluminus. I decided to apply Early Decision because of Hopkins’ call for “acting,” and its abundant opportunities on cooperation and research. I was also moved by one senior’s words that “JHU is where everyone can find his own niche and pursuit.”
If you could teach one class at Hopkins, what would it be? (already exists or invented by you!) I would like to give lectures on writing (auto) biographies and share my ideas on how to define and evaluate our previous experiences in a positive and rational eye, encouraging people to see the value of their own as well as others’ ordinary life.
Is there a quote or motto that inspires you? What is it and what does it mean to you? “There is no greater disability in society, than the inability to see a person as more.” – Robert M. Hensel Hensel’s words led me to think about how social norms and external expectations can shape a man’s self-perception and define his potential. After reading this quote I suddenly saw a new angle to interpret the existence of certain turmoils, individual or collective, physical or mental. And it urged me to learn more about the human-social interaction and ways that can liberate positive human spirits.
What’s your best piece of college search advice for high school students? I think it is important for high school students to dig into the surface, use different approaches to find informations and think critically regarding the credibility of those sources. Do not listen blindly to any individual advice, as the decision needs to be right for you, and your real expectation matters the most.
What are you most excited for about college and/or coming to Hopkins? I feel excited to study, live, and grow in a new country with cultures and expectations that I may not be familiar with. I love encountering new facets of the world and myself through pure academic discussion, meaningful research and acitivities, as well as just simply hanging out and listening to different people.
Complete this sentence: “I would not be here on this journey to Hopkins if it weren’t for _______________.” I would not be here on this journey to Hopkins if it weren’t for my parents’ support and unconditional trust.
If you could give your junior-year-of-high-school-self one piece of advice, what would it be? Forming your own thoughts is as important as listening to other’s ideas.
What are you most excited to do in Baltimore? Since I have never been to Baltimore before, I plan to visit local park, museum, as well as funny stores and restaurants.
