Name: Mazen M.

Hometown: Giza, Egypt

Anticipated Major: Neuroscience, minor in Entrepreneurship and Management

How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I first got acquainted with Hopkins when I heard about Hopkins medical school in an article, and later when I was doing college search at the beginning of my Junior year. After carrying out deeper research, I got impressed by the university character and vision and, academically, the biology programs, especially the neuroscience major. I decided to apply Early Decision when I went there on a summer program. I felt that such a unique campus vibe with the funny, nerdy students there will help me to thrive and get the most out of my undergraduate experience.

If you could teach one class at Hopkins, what would it be? (already exists or invented by you!) Neurobiology of human cognition

What are you most excited for about college and/or coming to Hopkins? My high school was a boarding school, and I really loved the experience there, so I think I am most excited about living again in a dorm but with totally different people having different backgrounds and distinguished mindsets. I am also very excited for some serious laboratory work.
What do you hope to get involved in on campus? I really hope to get involved in lab and research work. Specifically speaking, I am really looking forward to getting Woodrow Wilson Research Fellowship. Moreover, I think I will engage in different public speaking and debate activities. I also intend to enroll in some “REAL football” intramural competitions.
If you could give your junior-year-of-high-school-self one piece of advice, what would it be? Socialize as much as you can. Don’t panic or be hesitant; you are going in the right way.
