student Oliver

Name: Oliver W.

Hometown: Baltimore, MD

Anticipated Major: Undecided Engineering

How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I live in Baltimore so I’ve grown up hearing about Hopkins. When I toured campus, I noticed how engaged the students were. The combination of a gorgeous campus and inquisitive atmosphere was incredibly inviting, and something that I wanted to be a part of.

Is there a quote or motto that inspires you? What is it and what does it mean to you? “Don’t be an idiot.” Michael Scott, through Dwight Schrute. It’s simple but reminds me to be smart about the things that I do.

What’s your best piece of college search advice for high school students? Start looking early. You may not know what you’re looking for in a school until you see it, so give yourself time to branch out and figure out what you like.
What do you hope to get involved in on campus? I hope to play club soccer or play ultimate frisbee. It’ll be a great way to have fun, play sports that I enjoy, and get to know my new classmates.
