How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? To be honest, I first discovered Hopkins on the US news rankings, as one does when applying for colleges. I had also heard of it in the past through TV and news stories, videos, etc. that cited professors/the medical school at JHU. I was unsure whether I would apply, however, after touring last February, I fell in love with the campus, the weather, the location and Hopkins’ mission, and became invested in attending the school, prompting me to apply early decision.
Who is the most influential person in your life? I would definitely say my dad is the most influential person in my life. As a computer engineer himself, he has nudged me in the direction of studying STEM, and has fostered my curiosity through answering my numerous questions (coincidentally what I wrote my application essay about). He has also pushed my competitive side, and encouraged me to pursue sports my entire life.
What’s your best piece of college search advice for high school students? If possible, try to tour places you aren’t sure if you want to apply. I probably would not have even applied to Johns Hopkins, let alone early decision, had I not toured and fallen in love with the campus.
What is the accomplishment you’re most proud of? I’m definitely most proud of being a cross country captain of my high school team for the past few years. It is the most fun thing I did during high school, and where the majority of my friends have come from, and being named a captain of the team made me extremely happy.
What are you most excited for about college and/or coming to Hopkins? I’m excited to live and interact with a different group of people than I have for the first 17 years of my life.
What do you hope to get involved in on campus? I hope to be involved in the running club, outdoor clubs and intramural sports.
What are you most excited to do in Baltimore? Find good places to eat.
