How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I was searching for a school with a strong creative writing program, and JHU was at the very top of the list! Several visits later, I knew the Hopkins curriculum, campus, and general vibe was perfect for me.
If you could teach one class at Hopkins, what would it be? (already exists or invented by you!) Our human love for music is such a universal phenomenal, and I think it would be really fun to explore the way it transcends societal boundaries.
Is there a quote or motto that inspires you? What is it and what does it mean to you? I love the sentence, “An artist is not paid for his labor but for his vision.” It’s a James Whistler quote that I received on a fortune cookie about a year ago, and it felt eerily applicable to my life and ambitions.
What is the accomplishment you’re most proud of? My junior year I had the opportunity to teach creative writing to students who were learning English as their second or third language. It was incredibly rewarding to see something I love positively influence the lives of others!
What are you most excited for about college and/or coming to Hopkins? I can’t wait to meet people who are wildly passionate about the things that fascinate them, even if those things are totally different from my interests. I can definitely talk about literary movements for hours, but I love learning about niche things like carbon scrubbing and methane propulsion from my classmates.
