FAQ

student Renee

Name: Renee L.

Hometown: Grosse Pointe, MI

Anticipated Major: How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I was recruited by the swim team and absolutely fell in love with the school when I visited. Also, #1 BME program in the country is pretty sick too!

Is there a quote or motto that inspires you? What is it and what does it mean to you? “I didn’t come this far, to only come this far” because it just reminds me that there’s always more to do and more to accomplish and bigger goals to achieve. It helps me never settle and always strive for more. I actually have a sticker with this quote on my laptop!

How has your family background or life experiences shaped you? I moved around a lot and have lived in 5 cities in 3 countries on 2 continents. This has allowed me to become so much more open-minded and given me such a broad view of the world. I’ve learned to always see the good in all different kinds of people. Something that I discovered as a hint to making friends is basically just be your best self and have a smile on your face, and people will naturally like you! 🙂

What is the accomplishment you’re most proud of? I would say winning a National Championship with my swim team and then getting my city to build a $65 million dollar pool to host the International Children’s Games that I got to compete in was a big highlight of my life so far. But honestly, being a good person is more important than any material accomplishment.

What are you most excited for about college and/or coming to Hopkins?  Having fun, meeting new people, learning things I actually want to learn, being curious and independent… too many to list.

If you could get ice cream with one person (real or imaginary; dead or alive), who would it be and what kind of ice cream would you get? Emma Watson, Superman ice cream (it’s a Michigan thing)
If you could give your junior-year-of-high-school-self one piece of advice, what would it be? I say this in hindsight, but… don’t worry! Everything will work out in the end as long as you’ve done all the preparation and hard work you needed to do beforehand!
What are you most excited to do in Baltimore? FOOD and sports games!
