How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I was considering going on the premed track so when looking for potential colleges, Hopkins popped up quite often. I did a campus tour and instantly could see myself going there. I applied ED because there was no other school I wanted to attend as bad as JHU and knew I would pick it in heartbeat!

Is there a quote or motto that inspires you? What is it and what does it mean to you? “Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.” I think I saw this on Instagram once and it resonated with me because it reminds to courageously and unapologetically follow my passion.

How has your family background or life experiences shaped you? Growing up in Singapore has had a major influence on my perspective. To be immersed in a place where so many different cultures can live in harmony has redefined what diversity means to me.

What’s your best piece of college search advice for high school students? Look for a school that excites you – whether it be on a campus tour, conversation with a uni counselor or even reading the course catalog on their website, thinking about going to that college should be exciting!

What are you most excited for about college and/or coming to Hopkins? There is so much to do! I’m excited about the academic freedom, the opportunity to research, try out new activities that I didn’t get to do in High School, and most importantly meet people from all over world who are just as passionate about their majors!!

What book, album/song, or TV show has had a profound influence on your life? Grey’s Anatomy – I knew Hopkins was the one when they had the Da Vinci robot used in an episode on campus

What do you hope to get involved in on campus? Definitely community service, MUN/debate, student government and research!

If you could get ice cream with one person (real or imaginary; dead or alive), who would it be and what kind of ice cream would you get? I would get some mango sorbet with Paul Kalanithi.

Complete this sentence: “I would not be here on this journey to Hopkins if it weren’t for _________________.” A summer course on Evolutionary Medicine that introduced to the field of Public Health.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? (dream big!) Working with the WHO/similar organisation to improve access to healthcare in developing countries.

What are you most excited to do in Baltimore? Go restaurant hopping!
