How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? Johns Hopkins is a university with great reputation. As a debater, JHU’s outstanding debate team attracted me. And the relatively rigorous style of study also makes me feel that this is a very suitable school for me.
Who is the most influential person in your life? My father, as he always encourages me to overcome difficulties.
If you could teach one class at Hopkins, what would it be? (already exists or invented by you!) Chinese literature.
What book, album/song, or TV show has had a profound influence on your life? There’s a famous Chinese debate TV program called “U can U BiBi”, which really influences me a lot. The debate motions include “should there be a chip that can share all knowledge to all human beings in one second?” “Can money replace gifts?”. Participants from various backgrounds offer novel perspectives on the motions that are close to our daily life. The fresh thoughts and ideas arouse my interest in the debate and speech, and I learned from the speakers how to use personal anecdotes, emotions, examples to persuade others. Essentially, I learned the art of speaking.
What crazy invention would you love to design? Shoes that can heat themselves since my feet are too cold in the winter.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? (dream big!) I see myself as a freelancer in 10 years. I wish I can travel around the world and write down my experiences and feelings.
