How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I attended the summer program Engineering Innovation at Johns Hopkins in the summer of 2018 and I was fascinated by its beautiful campus, friendly and erudite professors , and the supportive community! As I knew more about JHU through information sessions, campus tours, and emails with the admission officers, I was thrilled by the school’s abundant research opportunities and resources. I believe JHU will properly support me to pursue my passion in engineering, chemistry, and medicine due to its open-minded and motivating attitude towards its students!

Who is the most influential person in your life? My father. He is a open-minded dad who always discuss chemistry/physics problems with me and we love to talk about new and fancy technologies like AlphaGo at the dinner table and discover interesting things together! He has shaped me to be an organized, caring, communicative and patient girl. He respects my ideas and supports my passion in STEM all the way through my life. He also guided me to be more outgoing and versatile by spending time with me in jogging, swimming, and playing badminton every week. I am very grateful of everything he has done for me.

What’s your best piece of college search advice for high school students? Always be willing to explore! Find out what your passion really is and see what you value (e.g. class size, clubs, research opportunities…). Dive into the colleges’ websites, always be willing to communicate with the admission staffs through emails and phone calls, because I believe they are very nice and always willing to answer your questions!

What fictional character (Hermione Granger, Holden Caulfield, etc.) do you most relate to or most closely represents you as a person? Jane Eyre. I admire the way she pursues her own love despite the social forces of discriminating women. The way I resembles her is that, we are both willing to step out of the environment around us and explore the world, to pursue our dream and passion.

If you could get ice cream with one person (real or imaginary; dead or alive), who would it be and what kind of ice cream would you get? Hermione Granger (when she is 16)/peppermint flavor with chocolate chips!

What are you most excited to do in Baltimore? Visiting Inner Harbor: explore the National Aquarium and enjoy crab cakes with friends and family!
