How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I knew of a student who played soccer like I did that graduated from my high school and was going to Hopkins when I was graduating 8th grade. He was the one who opened my eyes to the possibility Hopkins held for my development as a student and athlete. Over the next couple years I heard great things about Hopkins and had it as one of the top schools I was going to apply to but what ultimately made me decide to apply Early Decision was the fact that it is perfect for me. I committed in September to join the soccer team and that required me to apply ED but I wouldn’t have if I didn’t think it was my perfect fit for my goals and aspirations, including the stellar pre-med track it is able to put me on.

If you could teach one class at Hopkins, what would it be? (already exists or invented by you!) I would definitely teach a class on dogs and puppies. What we would do in this class is have various field trips to animal shelters to play with the dogs and even have some on in. To begin they year we would have a special “lab” which involved the class taking care of a Labrador retriever puppy to get it ready to be a seeing eye dog or therapy dog. We would get a lot of hands on learning while playing with dogs.

Is there a quote or motto that inspires you? What is it and what does it mean to you? Hazard Zet Forward. It comes from my house school and means that through adversity, keep charging forward. When I came into my high school I thought it was a cliché school motto that meant nothing but a good saying to put on banners but after my four years I have learned to live this motto whether it be in the classroom, on the soccer field, or at home it pushes me to become he best I can. It also shows me I am more capable than I ever thought.

What are you most excited to do in Baltimore? I am most excited to really experience the city life because although I live close to NYC I almost never make the trip into it. Living so close to the heart of Baltimore, in my opinion, is going to open my eyes to a new world altogether and allow me to meet a lot of interesting people.

How has your family background or life experiences shaped you? My family background has molded me into the person I am today. Both my parents are the last of six children so both sides of my family are huge. I have over forty extended family members and over the course of my life they all have instilled the values that I hold today. I have learned to be humble, work as hard as I can, and never stop loving the people who I care about. My parents in particular have defined what is right to do and showed me that there is no reason to ever do the wrong thing in any situation. My life experiences have challenged the values my family has given me. Through ups and downs these experiences have hardened my outlook on the world and allowed myself to be confident in who I am.

What’s your best piece of college search advice for high school students? Don’t stress. Everything will work out the way it is supposed to trust me. Maybe it not meant to be that you go to your dream ivy school because in reality not everyone will but you can’t get hung up in the downfalls because no matter what at the end of your process you will be happy with where you end up and it will sling slot your life on a positive direction.

What book, album/song, or TV show has had a profound influence on your life? Kenney Chesney’s Songs for the Saints

What fictional character do you most relate to or most closely represents you as a person? Iron Man because I am a good problem solver that can be charismatic at times but also lead his team through adversity.

What are you most excited for about college and/or coming to Hopkins? I am super excited to have a taste of independence and see how my path forms from day 1 to graduation.

If you could get ice cream with one person (real or imaginary; dead or alive), who would it be and what kind of ice cream would you get? I would have get ice cream with Darth Vader because why not. I would get classic vanilla.

Complete this sentence: “I would not be here on this journey to Hopkins if it weren’t for _________________________ (person/place/thing/experience/etc.).” my high school soccer coach

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? (dream big!) I will be in my residency at some hospital learning a crazy amount every single day and assisting in saving lives. I will be on my way to becoming a surgeon and I will have done research to help solve some problem.
