How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I first discovered Hopkins through a friend of mine who was a sophomore at Hopkins at the time. She had nothing but positivity and excitement to voice about the school, and over time she persuaded me to investigate, visit, and apply. I applied Early Decision because I loved both the challenging yet collaborative energy of the school and because of the many pathways Hopkins offers for students to explore get involved in projects and activities that offer a look into the career and future potentials of their interests. While I know I want to pursue a career in science, I am unsure exactly where that path will take me. I was excited to engage in the various opportunities Hopkins provides for students like me to work in labs and participate in activities that that closely if not directly mimic the actual careers they want to explore.
Who is the most influential person in your life and why? Definitely my father. He runs marathons and ultramarathons, and he’s even participated in a 100-mile race before. As a runner myself, I am always impressed at his resilience and dedication to training and practicing his sport.
If you could teach one class at Hopkins, what would it be? (already exists or invented by you!) Definitely a class on LOST fan theories or a general breakdown of the show. It’s my favorite TV show of all time and I could talk and theorize about it for hours.
What do you hope to get involved in on campus? I’m hoping to get involved in club soccer. I love the sport and have played it all of high school. I’m also a huge a cappella fan and I sing tenor in a group right now, so I’d love to get involved with one of Hopkins’s a cappella groups!
What’s your best piece of college search advice for high school students? Don’t investigate by name alone. Of course it helps to have an idea of what you want and start your search with colleges you know, but make sure to explore! Hopkins was barely on my radar until I began speaking to my friend at Hopkins about it and it ended up being my first choice.
What are you most excited for about college and/or coming to Hopkins? I’m excited to make new friends! I come from a tiny private school with 50 students per grade and while I love all my friends there, I can’t wait to branch out and meet a ton of new people.
