How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I first heard the name “Johns Hopkins” during a conversation with my dad about his college experience. He got accepted to Hopkins, but unfortunately wasn’t able to afford the cost. I began doing a lot of research about Hopkins, and after learning about how amazing this school is, JHU has sat on the top of my college list. During senior year, I visited Hopkins and stayed with a current student in the dorms during the Fall Overnight Program. I applied Early Decision because I was sure that I wanted Hopkins to be my home for the next four years. From getting to study in the world-class Biomedical Engineering Program to being an NCAA athlete on the fencing team and everything in between, I can’t be happier with my decision to commit.
Who is the most influential person in your life and why? My 6th grade elementary school teacher, Mr. Kessel, had a significant, positive impact on my life and my goals. Moving back to the US from Taiwan after two years, I had a difficult time, both academically and socially. Mr. Kessel patiently helped me with everything I needed to get back on my feet and instilled confidence in me to aim high in life. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have applied to Hopkins!
