How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply? I’ve always known that Johns Hopkins University was the dream school. At JHU, the diversity, research opportunities, and student life appealed to me in ways that no other university could. I knew that this was the perfect school for me. Like any other student, I experienced setbacks. During freshman year of high school, I was told by a college advisor that I was just simply “not good enough” for JHU. I decided to prove them wrong and do everything in my capability to reach my goal. Today, I’m filled with endless gratitude for the opportunity that Johns Hopkins has presented me with.
Is there a quote or motto that inspires you? What is it and what does it mean to you? “A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything”-Malcolm X There is something special about this quote that inspires me to be better. In a society that often faces injustices, it’s necessary to stand up for what we believe in. And more importantly, we must represent those who cannot speak up for themselves due to the fear of being targeted. It reminds me to do right in the most challenging of times.
What’s your best piece of college search advice for high school students? Dream big! So many students get discouraged during the college application process and it shouldn’t be that way! Don’t let people tell you that you aren’t good enough. Go somewhere that you’ll love and achieve great things.
What is the accomplishment you’re most proud of? (big or small!) My favorite accomplishment is being accepting into JHU!!! The moment was so surreal that I still can’t believe it sometimes.
Complete this sentence: “I would not be here on this journey to Hopkins if it weren’t for _____________________” My family. They’re my greatest motivators!
