How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? My parents have worked at the hospital all my life and ever since I realized I wanted to be a doctor, I knew Hopkins was the best place for me. Everything about the school makes me excited to learn and meet new people. When I visited the campus I had the “this is home” feeling I’ve always heard about but never experienced at other campuses.
Who is the most influential person in your life and why? My dad is the most influential person in my life. He encourages me to be the best student I can be and help me realize that I really wanted to be a doctor.
If you could teach one class at Hopkins, what would it be? (already exists or invented by you!) Probably an intro to calculus because it is my favorite class!
Is there a quote or motto that inspires you? What is it and what does it mean to you? El que es buen chile donde quita es verde, which means a good pepper will grow wherever it’s planted.
How has your family background or life experiences shaped you? My Mexican heritage has taught me so much about identity. It has taught me delicious recipes and a whole language.
What’s your best piece of college search advice for high school students? Do not be afraid of rejection. I was almost positive that when I applied to Hopkins I would hear a no, but I took the chance and my dream came true.
What crazy invention would you love to design? I would love to invent a spray that makes vegetables taste better because, let’s be honest, they are not that tasty.
What are you most excited for about college and/or coming to Hopkins? I can’t wait to meet people that have the same ambition and drive to learn as me.
If you could get ice cream with one person (real or imaginary; dead or alive), who would it be and what kind of ice cream would you get? Jean Valjean and cotton candy
