How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? I went to Summer Session and spent five weeks in Hopkins. It was an unforgettable experience — meeting so many excellent peers, taking courses taught by professors at Hopkins, and exploring the campus. After this visit, I was determined to apply JHU as my Early Decision because I was totally attracted.

Who is the most influential person in your life and why? My mother had a great influence on me. Though apart from me, her suffering still anchors in my heart every day. She had suffered from cancer; despite her efforts, she lost the battle eventually. My mother taught me about the connection between body and mind. I often thought she willed herself to survive the aggressive disease as long as she did. Her optimism, hope, and love for her family gave her the strength in her spirit to keep living. She did not complain about misfortune. She did not dwell on hardship and pain. My mother gave me a dose of medicine before she died.

What do you hope to get involved in on campus? I would like to get involved in clubs featured with LGBTQIA groups and Feminism. I have always been interested in these topics. In China, due to heavy burdens of school work, few students discuss about these topics and many show no interests. However, I have read many books and watched classical musicals with these topics. I am looking forward to learn more and talk to people with same interests as me.

Complete this sentence: “I would not be here on this journey to Hopkins if it weren’t for ______________________.”

I would not be here on this journey to Hopkins if it weren’t for my experiences here during the summer. I have learnt so much during that five weeks. The courses I took was challenging but exhilarating — I wrote a research paper on my own for the first time, and delivered a presentation in front of two excellent professors as well as more than thirty outstanding peers with different nationalities. I also made some good friends who shared big or small dreams with me, and one of my best friends there was also accepted through Early Decision. I couldn’t wait seeing here this year.
