How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply Early Decision? It has been three years since I first discovered Hopkins so it is kind of hard to recall the first approach. What has been the most memorable moment should be the first time I opened JHU official website and saw all the students and faculty waving. JHU is always known for its academic reputation, but its welcoming vibe is what pushed me to apply early decision.

What do you hope to get involved in on campus? Clubs!!! I am interested in cultures, and I wish to meet new friends in different clubs. And to continue my hobbies as well!

How has your family background or life experiences shaped you? Life experience trying all sorts of things shaped my thoughts and my belief to always explore more and never stay in the past. I once returned to my childhood experience as a definite source of happiness when I met many new things and get overwhelmed. I did a lot of things that I did in childhood, return to old schools, hang out with old friends but everything turned out to be strange. And I realize I should not chase my happiness in the past, instead, I should always create new in the future.

What’s your best piece of college search advice for high school students? Don’t focus on rankings! Ranking influences so many people’s choices, and prohibits them to find the most suitable schools. For me, find a school that truly inspires to apply is much more important than find a school that is famous or has high ranking.

What book, album/song, or TV show has had a profound influence on your life? Taylor Swift’s albums, especially Reputation

What fictional character do you most relate to or most closely represents you as a person? Miguel in the movie “Coco”. It is more like I am trying to be Miguel instead of we’re alike. I wish to become the person who can always balance between family and career dreams and most importantly, to always have the courage to find a better balance.

What are you most excited for about college and/or coming to Hopkins? Research!!! That is the main reason why I apply to Hopkins. My failing experience in high school doing research does not prohibit me to continue my interests doing research. Not knowing an explicit direction to do my research, I hope to explore a lot of directions and Hopkins gives me the greatest chance.

What is the accomplishment you’re most proud of? (big or small!) My first dancing performance. Though not talented, but I am really into dancing. I practiced a lot to catch up, and do well in the dance. It is my first time performing on the stage and I am even amazed by my own progress.

Complete this sentence: “I would not be here on this journey to Hopkins if it weren’t for ______________________.” Like I said for previous question, my first time looking into the official website. But more importantly, my experience visiting Hopkins. I attended Engineering Innovation, but I did not get the chance to study in Homewood campus. Still, my visit to Homewood campus gives me a unique feeling of belonging. That pushed me to apply to Hopkins.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? (dream big!) Though might not be possible, I never satisfy to be normal. I wish to be a scientist. I wish to create something that can change everyone’s life. That’s a dream that seems too vague, or even childish. I wish to find my own direction, and only go for that direction.
