How did you discover Hopkins and why did you apply? Going to a high school in Maryland, people often talk about Hopkins, so I was interested in the university when I started to look at colleges. When I visited JHU on a tour, I really loved the campus and the students, and was really interested in the open curriculum and numerous research opportunities available so I knew I wanted to apply!
Is there a quote or motto that inspires you? What is it and what does it mean to you? “Let us go on and take the adventures that shall fall to us.”― C.S. Lewis. This quote inspires me to be willing to try new things and take on challenges that are available to me, even if they are out of my comfort zone.
What are you hoping to get involved in on campus? I’m hoping to get involved with some kind of musical ensemble since I play the flute, a Christian organization, some volunteering, and maybe club swim.
How has your family background or life experiences shaped you? I’ve had the opportunity to live in Hong Kong for all three years of middle school, and lived in Taiwan for two years. I’ve been able to become friends with people from all over the world and I’ve come to appreciate being surrounded by people with so many different cultures, backgrounds, and beliefs.
I would not be here on this journey to Hopkins if it weren’t for: My dad, who encouraged me to stop doubting myself and take the chance to apply to Hopkins.
What are you most excited for about college and/or coming to Hopkins? I’m excited to really focus on learning more about the specific topics I’m interested in! I also can’t wait to meet people from different places and make new friends!
