FAQ

Name: Aastha K.

Hometown: Marlboro, NJ

Anticipated Major(s): Biomedical Engineering on a pre-med track

How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply ED? As a junior, I conducted a independent research project, and immediate I knew that no matter what major I did in college, I wanted research to be a part of it. Naturally, I realized Hopkins was the best place I would be able to do that. I visited last summer when no one was on campus and fell in love with it and the city. I’m so excited to start exploring Baltimore and the next chapter of my life here!!

What are you most excited to do in Baltimore? I’m obsessed with trying out new foods and restaurants, so I will definitely be exploring what Baltimore has to offer! I have a food instagram (@eatingwithaastha) so I’ll be taking manyyy trips around the city. I’m also looking forward to going on hikes! I haven’t seen much of Maryland so I can’t wait to see what it has to offer.

What do you hope to get involved in on campus? I’m currently training to become and EMT, as I’m interested in joining the squad at Hopkins. I haven’t looked into specific clubs yet, but I do want to join some where I can do community service in a way that is combined with medicine. Also, I ran track and cross country in all four years of high school, and while I don’t plan on running competitively, I do still want to join a club to meet other people I can run with!

What are you most excited for about college and/or coming to Hopkins? I’m so excited to meet people! That’s why I loved the campus because i saw it as a little neighborhood in a big city. I cant wait to make new friends with people from around the world (it’s crazy that I’ll be going to school with people from across the globe) and get to know them!

What is the accomplishment you’re most proud of? (big or small!) I’m not the best at cooking, but I’ve been trying to get better, especially in quarantine. About a year ago, I made pancakes for the first time (if you can even call them that — that’s how lumpy they were) but I can make perfect circles now! I’m super proud of my pancakes now.
