How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply ED? Amidst the coronavirus chaos, Johns Hopkins University remains as the beacon to the public because of its active role played during the pandemic and its voice of authority on statistics analysis.
Who is the most influential person in your life and why? Dr. Yee, an eye surgeon who specializes in dry eye symptoms. At his clinic, I gained exposure to the intricacy and complexity of Ophthalmology. Initially, the preliminary examination was challenging and tedious. When operating on the machinery to measure patients’ numbers, I had to ask them to lean their chins on the frame despite the constant itch in their eyes. Until one day, a patient named Samuel Woodward, whose eye was infected by parasites from raindrops, came in for his follow up diagnosis. Samuel’s improvements in vision after the treatments of Dr. Yee ignited my desire to become someone like him who contributes to his community with life science knowledge. Such experiences made me realize that science is only impactful when it is correctly translated into our community by the practitioners. I wanted to dedicate myself to the pursuit of wellness and compassion for others.
