How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply ED? I attended the JHU fall open house in 2019. I immediately fell in love with the campus, the people, and the overall environment! I could see myself really thriving there. I applied ED because I knew Hopkins was a match for me, and that being a Blue Jay would give me opportunities I couldn’t find elsewhere.
Who is the most influential person in your life and why? My mentor, Judy, at the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center. She has been a conservationist for over 50 years and has a PhD in ornithology. Judy showed me that my love for wildlife could become a career.
If you could teach one class at Hopkins, what would it be? (already exists or invented by you!) Environmental Sociology: I love exploring the relationships between humans and the natural world.
What are you most excited to do in Baltimore? Eat lots of seafood. I am a Maryland native, after all.
What do you hope to get involved in on campus? I definitely want to be a part of campus activism, like environmental advocacy and equal rights groups.
How has your family background or life experiences shaped you? Growing up along the Chesapeake Bay undoubtedly gave me a certain appreciation for the outdoors. I spent much of my childhood exploring muddy shorelines. By the age of 9 I had a pair of binoculars and quickly became an avid birdwatcher. These experiences made me passionate about protecting the environment and all it has to offer.
