How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply? After many college searches I decided to apply to Hopkins because of its strong reputation in producing well rounded professionals especially in the medical field. JHU is one of the top universities in the states and values excellence, discovery, diversity, and inclusion. Deciding to apply was a bit of a bit of a scary and last minute decision for me but I have come to realize how well it aligns with my interests, intellectual curiosity, and desire to do more in the aspect of societal participation when it comes to my education.

Who is the most influential person in your life and why? The most influential person in my life is my oldest sister Awa. While we definitely have our differences, she possesses traits that I have learned to value most in my life which is determination, passion, and confidence. She has battled many things in life but the strength of her character, especially in these three aspects, has given her the strength to come as far as she has today in her health, career, and relationships. Growing up I had the privilege to witness just how crucial it is to foster a mindset that will help you in the competition against yourself.

Is there a quote or motto that inspires you? What is it and what does it mean to you? A motto that inspires me is ‘stop waiting’. I often get trapped in the idea of things that I want to do in the future that the present moment loses its worth. These two words remind me that as of right now the present time is all that exists. Spending more time enjoying my current situation or forcing myself to do something I keep make excuses to hold off on has made me a happier person in the past years. Putting a time stamp on your dreams and goals only forces you to wait for feelings of happiness and fulfillment when there is so much to embrace and enjoy right now.

What are you most excited for about college and/or coming to Hopkins? I am most excited to meet like minded individuals whom I can have genuine conversations and exchange of thought with. There are many people in this world committed to disagreeing with you but I feel JHU will provide a collaborative and constructive environment where my voice can truly resonate and interact with that of others.
