How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply ED? I discovered Hopkins in middle school when attending a CTY camp. Moving into high school , I continued to keep an eye on Hopkins when researching colleges. I decided to apply ED, because of its abundant research opportunities and amazing pre-med program. I also loved how community centered Hopkins was, and I knew I could thrive in such an environment!
Is there a quote or motto that inspires you? What is it and what does it mean to you? I don’t really have a quote or motto, but I try to live my life taking all the chances I can get. If it turns out bad, a lesson is learned. It if turns out good, it could be amazing. I like to stay open to all people and experiences in the hopes that it helps me grow in the end.
How has your family background or life experiences shaped you? I grew up with a very strange mix of cultures. My mom is Korean and my dad is an Armenian-Iranian who grew up in Spain. So, yes, you might have guessed that our meals are pretty diverse. Kimchi and bulgogi one night, ghormeh sabzi the next, and finally followed by paella the third. But it wasn’t just the great food that made me fall in love with my diversity. It was the ability to understand and celebrate vastly different cultures that shaped the way I viewed world.
What are you most excited for about college and/or coming to Hopkins? I most excited for the new experiences! I am exited to be a new environment where the opportunity for growth can be found and shared with every unique experience. I can’t wait to be challenged and inspired and make friends in a whole new city. I feel like Hopkins and Baltimore is perfect place for that.
