How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply ED? I first heard of Hopkins because I was considering going into the medical field in the future, so I decided to look into possible colleges that I would like to go to in order to study to be a doctor. Eventually, I fell in love with Hopkins because I kept on going to every informational event I could make it to so that I could learn more about different programs that were offered. It got to the point where I was familiar with many admissions officers and students, so that’s when I realized that I really wanted to go to Johns Hopkins since I had already been exposed to a lot of the community and loved every aspect of it.

Who is the most influential person in your life and why? My mom is the main reason why I was able to push myself and motivate myself to continuously aim for bigger, better goals. Because of the stories she would tell me about her life, I learned that nothing is impossible as long as you work hard for what you want. Without her, I wouldn’t have been able to do anything that I have achieved.

Is there a quote or motto that inspires you? What is it and what does it mean to you? “Adventure is out there!” This simple quote from Up has really inspired me to dare myself to try new things and not be afraid to deviate from the people around me. It has helped me become who I am today because I’m not afraid to be myself anymore.

What’s your best piece of college search advice for high school students? Don’t compare yourself to the guides online. You are more capable than you think you are.

What are you most excited for about college and/or coming to Hopkins? I’m most excited for starting a new chapter of my life and experiencing so many different things I never would have experienced if I stayed in California. I really can’t wait to experience the adventures that the next four years of my life will bring.

What is the accomplishment you’re most proud of? (big or small!) I’m definitely most proud of all of the years of work I have poured into my school’s Science Olympiad team. I never could have imagined that I would spend all four years of high school in a classroom studying about anatomy, genetics, and so many other topics. I’m really proud of how perseverant I was able to become because I went from knowing almost nothing but the basics of each field I would study to medaling multiple times in a lot of different competitions at both local and regional levels.

If you could get ice cream with one person (real or imaginary; dead or alive), who would it be and what kind of ice cream would you get? I really would want to get cherry chip ice cream with Walt Disney so that I can possibly see some of his original art and have fun with someone who made the studio that holds a really close place in my heart.
