How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply ED? When I was in 7th grade, I decided to join Johns Hopkins CTY program, and it was one of those remarkable experiences which sparked my passion in learning. During that time, I joined the Anatomy and Physiology course, and as I was exposed to the top notch lab facilities, it was the first time in my life that I felt like an actual researcher, a career that I wanted to pursue in the future. Johns Hopkins has always had a special place in my heart, and together with the combination of academic culture and a close-knitted community, it is the only place to be.
If you could teach one class at Hopkins, what would it be? (already exists or invented by you!) An Introduction to Herbal Medicine: Creating naturally derived health supplements through the exploration of plants and medicine.
Is there a quote or motto that inspires you? What is it and what does it mean to you? “If we want to achieve our goal, then let us empower ourselves with the weapon of knowledge and let us shield ourselves with unity and togetherness.”—Malala Yousafzai. This quote is extremely powerful as it encourages me to never stop learning and using my knowledge to contribute to society. Making a positive contribution to society, in my opinion, is a great way to add value to your identity and express compassion towards the others.
What are you most excited to do in Baltimore? As a BIG doughnut lover, I couldn’t be more excited to taste the legendary Fractured Prune Doughnuts! P.s. I’m also planning to make a food blog for restaurants in Baltimore at some point during my time at Hopkins, so please anticipate!
What do you hope to get involved in on campus? I’m looking forward to joining the JHU Eclectics all-inclusive dance club! As I’ve previously had some experiences in volunteering and developing rural communities in my own country, I also want to continue all of that at Hopkins Global Public Health Brigades.
How has your family background or life experiences shaped you? All of my family members are truly my biggest encouragement. They carry me through ups and downs and also allow me to explore my academic interests through high school without any restriction which makes me feel loved and supported.
What’s your best piece of college search advice for high school students? Honestly, ranking doesn’t matter as much as the personal connection you have with the college. I would recommend attending the summer program that different colleges offer, because that would provide noteworthy insights about each college that you might not have known before.
What crazy invention would you love to design? Phones can break easily even with the help from the extra-protective phone cases. Because of that, I really want to invent a phone case that stops the phone from hitting the ground or any sort of edges. If you can’t really imagine what I’m talking about, think about the superhero movies where the hero lands smoothly despite literally being a 100 ft above the ground:)
What book, album/song, or TV show has had a profound influence on your life? Hope in the Dark by Rebecca Solnit.
What fictional character do you most relate to or most closely represents you as a person? Judy Hopps from Zootopia.
What are you most excited for about college and/or coming to Hopkins? Living away from my family is going to be a huge change in my life, but I think that this independent time is going to be a stepping stone for me to thrive in the future. Coming to Hopkins as an international student, I’m really looking forward to many eye opening cultural and educational experiences.
What is the accomplishment you’re most proud of? (big or small!) One of the biggest moments in my life was honestly finding out that I got into Johns Hopkins! It was also the same moment when I finally stopped doubting myself and realized that I could accomplish so much more. I also felt extremely proud that I made my parents happy.
If you could get ice cream with one person (real or imaginary; dead or alive), who would it be and what kind of ice cream would you get? I want to get a raspberry sorbet with my 6 year old self. I want to tell her that she should really cherish her childhood years, and that she should let her mom take a lot of pictures of her (…because I really regret not letting my parents take pictures of me when I was young).
Complete this sentence: “I would not be here on this journey to Hopkins if it weren’t for _____________ (person/place/thing/experience/etc.).” The support from my family, friends, and teachers at school.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? (dream big!) I want to work in the Ministry of Public Health of my country and become the minister when I’m experienced enough. Thailand currently lacks workers who are specialized in public health, hence the poor healthcare quality across the rural areas. I’m determined to improve the well-being of Thai people, and I think it all starts with an adequate public health administration.
