How did you discover Hopkins and why did you decide to apply ED? I was first introduced to Hopkins through my friend’s sister and I have been lucky enough to taste a bit of Johns Hopkins (the fresh food cafe, too) as well as have fallen in love with the campus when I participated in Discover Hopkins. This was just the beginning; I applied to ED to JHU to make it my home. The flexibility and depth of the public health major at Johns Hopkins is truly unparalleled. In addition, I loved the idea of the applied experience requirement and doing hands-on work to become an effective researcher, a trusted community leader, and a global citizen.
If you could teach one class at Hopkins, what would it be? (already exists or invented by you!) I would invent and teach a class called “Mental health and AI: How robots and chatbots can help alleviate the mental health epidemic.”
What’s your best piece of college search advice for high school students? Take time to get to know who you are and what you value. Trust yourself!
How has your family background or life experiences shaped you? My Korean culture has allowed me to think collectively and see the beauty of individual efforts coming together to create a larger picture.
What book, album/song, or TV show has had a profound influence on your life? The La La Land instrumental soundtrack has had a profound influence on my life. It has allowed me to see the importance of the in-between songs and the little efforts that allow great things to come about.
